The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has fired Samson Siasia, the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The decision was taken on Friday in Abuja at the meeting of executive meeting of the NFF. The Technical Committee of the NFF had earlier recommended the sack and forwarded it to the Executive Committee.
Siasia has become the third African coaching casualty in a week as the fallout from the Nations Cup qualifiers continued to claim victims. The 44-year-old, who played for Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup and later coached the country's under-23 team to the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was fired after Nigeria's failure to qualify for next year's finals.
His sacking follows the departures of Javier Clemente at Cameroon and Tom Saintfiet from the Ethiopia post in the last seven days.
Meanwhile, the Executive Committee of the NFF has directed the Technical Committee to meet this week to recommend a replacement for the sacked coach. Three of Siasia’s team mates in the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, Daniel Amokachi and Sunday Oliseh have already indicated their intention to coach the senior national team.
